Jeffery Bryant, Head Coach Distance/Sprints

Meet our exceptional running coach, boasting an impressive record both as an athlete and a mentor. As a former CPS track champion and all-city cross country runner at Lane Tech High School, this individual went on to compete as a track and field athlete at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Now a USATF Level 1, ASEP Certified, and FMS Certified coach, they have dedicated the last nine years to shaping the next generation of runners at their alma mater, Lane Tech High School in Chicago.

Their outstanding coaching abilities have led to the development of 10 all-state athletes, demonstrating versatility in both distance and sprint coaching. Under their guidance, runners have achieved remarkable feats, including a 1600m State Champ, four All-State 4x400m relays, two All-State 800m runners, three state finalist 4x800m relay teams, and even a National Qualifier 4x8 relay. As one of the best high school coaches in the state, this accomplished professional is ready to help you elevate your running performance through our top-tier running programs.


Tony Jones, Distance Coach

Meet Tony Jones, a remarkable running coach with a stellar athletic and academic background. As a 1993 graduate of Indiana State University, Tony earned a degree in Sociology while excelling as an All-State athlete in track and field and cross country at Terre Haute North Vigo High School. His exceptional abilities as a student-athlete carried him to Indiana State University from 1987-90, where he competed in three Missouri Valley Conference Championships (two cross country and one track).

Tony, now a USATF Level 1 and ASEP certified coach, has devoted over 25 years to nurturing young athletes' talents at Lane Tech High School in Chicago. His coaching expertise has resulted in an impressive lineup of 30 All-State athletes, six state champions, and four All-Americans. As one of the best high school coaches in the state, Tony Jones is prepared to help you unlock your full potential with our top-notch running programs. Adrian Barrientos, Distance Coach

Introducing Adrian Barrientos, a highly accomplished running coach with a passion for developing the next generation of athletes. As a 2020 graduate of Northeastern Illinois, Adrian holds a degree in Health & Physical Education and is a USATF Level 1 certified coach. As a former CPS All-City Cross-Country & Track runner at Hubbard High School, where he earned IHSA XC All-Regional honors, Adrian continued his athletic career as a Morton College XCTF athlete.

With six years of high school coaching experience under his belt, Adrian has worked with students at Hubbard, Whitney Young, and Lane Tech, helping them reach their full potential. His coaching achievements include guiding multiple state qualifiers and All-State athletes in both cross-country and track. As a dedicated distance coach and a P.E. teacher at Lane Tech, Adrian Barrientos is ready to assist you in elevating your running performance through our first-rate running programs. Jorge Perez, Sprints & Hurdles Coach

We are thrilled to introduce Jorge Pérez, an accomplished Track & Field Coach with a passion for guiding athletes to reach their full potential. Jorge's own successful athletic career began in high school, where he was a two-time IHSA All-State Track & Field athlete in 2003 and 2004, qualifying in four individual events. As a 2004 3A Runner-up, Jorge ranked 18th nationally in the 110HH (14.07) and achieved a remarkable time of 38.26 in the 300IH. Additionally, he placed 8th in the 100M Dash (10.86) and qualified for the Long Jump (22 ft.11in. / 6.985m). His impressive performance earned him a track and field scholarship at Illinois State University, where he competed in 110HH, 4x100m Relay, and Long Jump.

Jorge's dedication to the sport has led him to a fruitful 15-year coaching career, during which he has mentored 44 IHSA State Qualifiers and 10 All-State Athletes in sprints, hurdles, and linear speed. He holds a B.A. in Kinesiology, Health Education, & Recreation from Illinois State University, as well as an M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction with Advanced Specializations from National Louis University. As an ASEP Certified Coach, Jorge brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the CYUP Training team, inspiring athletes to excel both on and off the track.


Thaniya (Tex) Lopez

With a stellar track record as a former Barbados national athlete, Tex Lopez competed in the 100m, 200m, and relays, proudly representing Barbados at the 4th IAAF World Junior Championships in Seoul, Korea, in 1992. His talent and perseverance brought him both gold and silver medals at the Carifta Games. He held the Barbados under 17 High School Boys 100m record for an astounding 18 years with a time of 10.50 seconds, His personal best is a lightning-fast 10.27 seconds in the 100m. In 1996, he ascended to become the 100m Champion of the Puerto Rican College league.

His academic pursuits led him to the Universidad de Interamericana in San German, Puerto Rico, where he specialized in Marketing. Beyond his athletic prowess and academic pursuits, he is a certified USATF Level 1 coach, with four years of coaching experience in the CPS, including notable positions at Kenwood Academy and presently as an assistant sprint coach at Lane Tech High School.

His passion transcends beyond the track, lying deeply rooted in the biomechanics and technical aspects of sprinting. His dedication to coaching stems from a desire to give back to the sport that has given him so much. Through his commitment to nurturing young talents, he strives to continue contributing to the athletic world that he loves so dearly.
